Begin Playing at Home

 

Begin playing the Suzuki Piano School Book One CD at home.  Call your local music store to be sure they carry Book One with CD included.

 

 

Read "Nurtured by Love"

Parents are strongly encouraged to read "Nurtured By Love" by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, and "Thoughts on the Suzuki Piano School" by Haruko Kataoka.  The first short book describes how Dr. Suzuki came upon this method of teaching children in a very natural way, and the pamphlet by Kataoka describes the Suzuki Method as it applies specifically to piano study and technique.

Visit a lesson before enrolling in Suzuki Piano Study.

 

 

Prepare Materials

Tune your piano!  If you do not already have one, acquire and acoustic piano.  While digital pianos have come a long way in certain aspects, it is impossible to teach tone production and proper technique on anything but an actual piano.  Acquire an adjustable piano bench or piano cushion and an adjustable piano footrest.  These last two essential items will help your child grow into their piano.
